Turquoise – Tumbled Stone

Turquoise takes its name from the Old French "pierre turquoise", the Turkish stone, as it passed through Turkey on its way from Persia to the markets of Europe. From the Egyptians to Native American peoples, it was one of the first gems worked by humankind, often regarded as a protective stone for travellers. The lithotherapy tradition associates it with the throat chakra and credits it with an affinity for communication, the right word and sincere self-expression.
