Peridot, the gem variety of olivine, was mined in antiquity on the island of Zabargad in the Red Sea, which the Greeks called Topazos. Its luminous, slightly golden green led the Egyptians to call it the "gem of the sun". Lithotherapy associates it with the heart and solar plexus chakras and makes it a stone of renewal and cleansing, said to encourage lightness, good humour and letting go.
