Whereas our EDD and Retro models allow the energy loop to flow from the transmitter arm to the base, travel up along the Lecher wire, pass through the schint, descend via the opposite wire, and close in the receiver arm, the Ernst model introduces a unique feature: the loop also passes through the cap itself. It thus closes the exact circle traced by the original experiment of 1888, recapturing in the contemporary gesture the purity of the founding gesture.
