Hematite – Tumbled Stone

Hematite takes its name from the Greek haima, blood, because its powder, once ground, takes on the dark red of dried blood, even though the polished stone shines with an almost silvery metallic lustre. This contrast between appearance and essence has, since antiquity, given it a reputation as a stone of strength and stability. The lithotherapy tradition has made it the grounding stone par excellence, associated with the root chakra: the one you hold in your hand to feel your feet firmly on the earth again when your thoughts race.
