Chalcedony takes its name from Chalcedon, an ancient Greek city facing Byzantium on the Asian shore of the Bosphorus. Its blue variety, of a milky softness, seems to filter light rather than reflect it. The lithotherapy tradition associates it with the throat chakra and makes it a stone of peaceful communication, said to encourage kindness in exchanges, listening and the serene expression of one's emotions.
