Amber is not a stone but a fossil resin, secreted by the conifer forests that covered the Baltic region tens of millions of years ago, and it sometimes traps an insect frozen in mid-flight. The Greeks called it elektron, and it was by rubbing it that they observed the attraction that would give electricity its name. The lithotherapy tradition associates it with the solar plexus chakra and makes it a stone of warmth and light, said to transform heavy energies.
