Amethyst – Tumbled Stone

The name amethyst comes from the Greek amethystos, "not drunk": the ancients believed it protected against intoxication, and people sometimes drank from cups carved from its violet material. This colour, long reserved for dignitaries of the Church, gave it an aura of spirituality that has never left it. Lithotherapy has made it the stone of wisdom and serenity, associated with the crown chakra, often kept close by to encourage peaceful rest and deeper meditation.
